Russian food holding Wimm-Bill-Dann (WBDF) launched the production of baby formula at a plant of Dutch-Swedish holding Arla Foods in Denmark, director of WBD's baby food division Ilya Sokolov said. "We entered the baby formula segment for the first time, launching contract-based production at Arla Foods' facilities in May 2008" – he said. "There were no suitable takeover targets in Russia, the construction of an own plant takes time and we had no wish to roll back the company's entry into the baby formula market. We found the best solution, a reliable global partner" – Sokolov said. Dutch-Swedish Arla Foods is one of the biggest dairy product manufacturers in Europe, with FY07 sales exceeding USD 10 bn. Sokolov declined to reveal the parameters of the agreement signed with Arla, noting that the companies intend to cooperate for at least several years.
