May 15. Baltika Brewery (RTS: PKBA) is to pick up a beer producer in Azerbaijan. As the beer giant said in a press release, Baltika is going to announce the acquisition in Azerbaijan during a conference call Thursday. As market participants believe, at issue could be the country's largest brewer – Baku Castel, a subsidiary of French Castel. According to earlier reports, Baku Castel became operational in 2000 with production capacity of 6 mn decaliters (dal) of beer a year with the possibility of raising output to 10 mn dal.
